Markdown

Upload a PDF to see its Markdown here.

Nothing sent anywhere

We convert the PDF in your browser; it never reaches our server.

Copy or download

Paste the Markdown straight into your editor or AI chat.

Tables and code kept

Tables become Markdown tables and code keeps its spacing.

Structured text you can paste anywhere

Markdown is plain text with a little structure: # for headings, - for lists and | for tables. Documentation sites, wikis and note apps use it, and AI assistants read it more reliably than raw PDF text.

The converter detects headings from font size and weight, joins broken lines into paragraphs, keeps bold and italic text, turns bullets into lists and rebuilds tables. Links become Markdown links and monospaced text becomes code blocks that keep their spacing.

Images can be left out, saved next to the .md file in a ZIP, or embedded in the file itself. Copy the result straight from the preview or download it.

How to use it

  1. 1Upload your PDF.
  2. 2Choose how to handle images and whether to mark page breaks.
  3. 3Check the Markdown in the preview and copy it, or
  4. 4Click Download to save the .md file (or a ZIP with images).

Image options

  • Leave out: text only, the smallest output and what you want for AI prompts.
  • ZIP with images: the .md file plus an images/ folder, ready for Git repositories and static sites.
  • Embedded: images inside the .md file as data, one self-contained file that can be large.

Where it comes in handy

  • Paste a report or paper into an AI assistant without losing its headings and tables.
  • Move old PDF manuals into a documentation site or wiki.
  • Keep notes from PDFs in Obsidian or Notion.
  • Track changes to a document in Git as plain text.

What it can't do

Scanned pages contain no text and are flagged in the preview; run them through OCR PDF first. Complex layouts such as magazine spreads are read in a sensible order, but footnotes and sidebars may land between paragraphs. Up to 500 pages per file.

What the output looks like

A heading in large bold type comes out as ## Heading, bullets become - item lines, numbered lists keep their numbers, and a table becomes rows of | cells | with a header line. Bold and italic words are wrapped in ** and *. A link in the PDF turns into [its text](https://the-address). Text set in a monospaced font, like code samples or ASCII diagrams, goes into a fenced code block so its spacing survives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser tab using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them.

Why convert a PDF to Markdown for AI tools?

AI assistants follow structure much better when headings, lists and tables are clearly marked. Markdown also avoids the broken lines and stray page numbers you get when copying text out of a PDF.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Not directly. Scanned pages are pictures with no text inside, so make them searchable with OCR PDF first. The tool tells you which pages have no text.

Which Markdown flavour is used?

GitHub-flavoured Markdown, which most editors, wikis and static site generators understand, including tables and fenced code blocks.

Are headers and page numbers removed?

Yes. Text repeated at the same place on most pages, such as running headers, footers and page numbers, is left out so it doesn't break up paragraphs.

Can I keep page breaks?

Yes. Turn on page-break markers and a separator is added between pages, which helps when you need to cite page numbers.

Can I edit the Markdown before downloading?

The preview is for checking. Copy it into your editor and change what you like there, or download the .md file and open it in any text editor.
