How splitting a PDF works
A PDF is a list of independent pages, each carrying its own text, fonts and images. Splitting copies the pages you choose into a brand-new PDF file. Nothing is re-rendered or compressed, so text stays selectable, links keep working and the quality is identical to the original.
There are three ways to split. "Every page" turns a 20-page document into 20 one-page PDFs, bundled in a ZIP. "Custom ranges" creates one PDF per range, which is handy for separating chapters, invoices or scanned batches. "Selected pages" lets you click thumbnails and combine just those pages, in page order, into a single file.
The whole process runs inside your browser using the open-source pdf-lib and pdf.js libraries. Your document is never sent to a server, which makes this safe for contracts, bank statements and other confidential files.
How to use it
- 1Click the upload area or drag a PDF onto it.
- 2Choose Every page, Custom ranges (e.g. 1-3, 4-6) or Selected pages.
- 3For Selected pages, click the page thumbnails you want to keep.
- 4Click Split & Download. Several files arrive as one ZIP.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser tab using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them.
Does splitting reduce the quality?
No. Pages are copied exactly as they are in the original file, including vector text and embedded images, so there is no quality loss.
How do I write page ranges?
Separate ranges with commas. "1-3, 7, 10-" creates three PDFs: pages 1 to 3, page 7, and page 10 to the end of the document.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. Open the file in your PDF reader with the password, save a copy without protection, then split that copy.
