Scan Documents to PDF

Use your phone or webcam as a document scanner: snap each page, straighten it, clean it up and save everything as one PDF.

Pages

Capture pages with your camera or add photos. Each one becomes a page of your PDF.

Camera stays local

Pages are captured and cleaned up on your phone or laptop, not on a server.

Straight, clean pages

Perspective correction and a Document filter for crisp black-on-white.

No app to install

Works with a phone or laptop camera, or photos you already have.

A document scanner in your browser

Take a photo of each page with your camera, or add photos you already have. The tool looks for the edges of the paper, and you can drag the four corners onto them, so a photo taken at an angle is straightened into a flat, rectangular page.

The Document filter whitens the background and darkens the text for a crisp, printable copy. Grayscale and Original keep more detail for photos and colourful pages. Rotate or delete pages and change their order before saving.

Pages are processed on your device: nothing is uploaded, and the camera switches off as soon as you're done. On phones where live camera access isn't available, Take photo opens your camera app instead.

How to use it

  1. 1Click Start camera (or Take photo, or add images).
  2. 2Capture each page, then adjust its corners and filter.
  3. 3Reorder, rotate or delete pages.
  4. 4Choose the page size and quality, then click Create PDF.

What you can scan

  • A signed form or contract the other side wants back as a PDF today.
  • A phone photo of a crumpled taxi receipt for your expense claim.
  • Notes, worksheets and book pages for study.
  • ID documents and certificates for online applications.
  • Whiteboards, sketches and handwritten pages you want to keep as a tidy document.
  • Multi-page documents, captured one page after another into a single PDF.

Filters and page edges

Use Document for printed or handwritten text on white paper: it evens out shadows and makes the paper white. Grayscale keeps shading for pencil, stamps and faint writing. Original keeps the colours, which suits photos, coloured forms and certificates.

Find page edges detects the paper automatically. Drag any corner to correct it, use the arrow keys for fine moves, or choose Use the whole photo to keep the full picture without straightening.

Tips for clean scans

  • Lay the page on a dark, plain surface so its edges stand out.
  • Use daylight or an even lamp, and avoid your shadow falling on the page.
  • Hold the phone above the page and fill most of the frame with paper.
  • Choose Small file quality for email, High for printing or OCR.
  • Keep the phone parallel to the paper; the corners can fix a tilt, but less correction means sharper text.

Limits and privacy

Up to 100 pages can go into one PDF; for longer documents, scan in parts and join them with Merge PDF. Live capture needs your permission to use the camera, and browsers only allow it on secure (https) pages. Photos and pages never leave your device, and the camera stops when you press Done or leave the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser tab using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them.

Why can't I start the camera?

Your browser needs permission to use the camera, and some browsers only allow it on secure (https) pages. If live capture isn't available, use Take photo, which opens your phone's camera app, or add photos you've already taken.

Is the scanned text searchable?

Not on its own, because scanned pages are pictures. Run the finished PDF through OCR PDF to add an invisible text layer, so you can search, select and copy the words.

How many pages can I scan?

Up to 100 pages per PDF. For longer documents, scan them in parts and join the files with Merge PDF.

Which page size should I choose?

A4 or Letter places each scan on a standard sheet, which suits printing and official uploads. Fit to scan makes each page exactly the size of the straightened photo.

Can I scan on a laptop?

Yes. A laptop or USB webcam works with Start camera; hold the paper flat and steady in front of it. You can also add photos taken on another device.
